A legacy of innovation.

Our continued focus on innovations in sustainable fabrics led to the development of the Sunbrella Renaissance line. Renaissance yarns are produced from reclaimed fiber, yarn and fabric waste and then used for new Sunbrella products like Sunbrella Renaissance Rugs for indoor and outdoor use as well as a new line of upholstery fabrics anchored by the award winning Heritage fabric available in 12 beautiful colors. Both of these new products combine 50% recycled content with 50% virgin fiber to ensure the performance that you’ve come to expect from Sunbrella.

Our commitment to innovation is also apparent in the constant improvement of our existing product lines. In 2008, after rigorous research and development, the next generation of Sunbrella awning and marine fabrics was introduced with a 25% increase in water repellency and no loss of breathability. This new generation of fabrics also featured enhanced quality and strength and offered a best in class, 10-year warranty. The same year, we also increased our furniture fabric warranty to five years as a display of confidence in the durability and longevity of our fabrics.

In 2011, after years of intense development and testing, Sunbrella Contract Fabrics with Defiance for Healthcare were released. This was followed in early 2012 with the release of Sunbrella Contract Fabrics targeting the hospitality industry, so now the fabrics you love at home will surround you in restaurants, hotels and healthcare facilities across the country. To further demonstrate our commitment to the contract market, Glen Raven, Inc., makers of Sunbrella, was the first company to declare compliance under the NSF/ANSI 336 sustainability standard.

Also, in 2011, our continuous look for new Sunbrella materials lead to the development of Sunbrella Rope and Sunbrella Strap. The first collection released was by Summer Classics who use the rope not as a seating surface but as a decorative element in the furniture frame. Brown Jordan, along with Richard Frinier used Sunbrella Strap as a seating surface for a new collection called Stretch. Only time will tell what our innovative manufacturing partners will come up with next.
